Info
I am originally from Belgium, but moved to the United States to pursue my education. Though I have lived in the U.S. since 2001, I have always held my Belgian heritage close and let it influence my work. My diverse upbringing has fostered a personal passion for exploration of culture and a love for its differences. I am driven by socially aware design both in interactive and print forms. As I am graduating in May, I am searching for an engaging experience to enrich my knowledge of design.

CCS Graphic Design Student Showcase
Our task was to present all sophomore, junior and senior graphic design work, on equal grounds, while organizing the work into categories that appropriately represent the diversity found in the students explorations. The design consists of a simple categorized presentation of all work. The user is lead through a field of thumbnails into individual student pages. Given the complexity of the experience, a favorites functionality was added as well as an alphabetical directory, to aid the user's navigation.
FUREAI
Fureai is an emotion felt when one feels an unexplained connection with a stranger.
This project simulates the experience by visualizing a connection between two people. The experience is meant to inspire users to interact with people in their surroundings and share a connection through a common experience. READ MORE
Royal Oak
Royal Oak is a city of over 60,000 residents, yet visitors only know the city
for its popular downtown street. We felt the city spent too much attention
on the downtown area, and forgot about the other essential parts that make
the city great. This identity is designed to show the working together of all
parts of the city: government, education, residential, leisure, and recreation.
The kinetic identity grows and changes color depending on the size and
topic of the promoted events. Collaboration with Megan Shellenbarger
and Michael Shanoski.
Breaking News Blagonizer
Rod Blagojevich, the ex-governor of Illinois is quite a controversial figure; he tried to sell Obama's Senate seat to the highest bidder. The Breaking News Blagonizer aims to poke fun at both Rod Blagojevich and the media's sensationalization of the situation. Just like Blagojevich did not have full control over his situation, the user of the game also does not have full control over what he creates. Certain elements are left up to a controlled chance system, such as background images that are called from Flickr. When the user is happy with his creation, he can then submit it to be included in a motion piece to be created when enough submissions are received.
Vitality
We live our lives every day, sharing experiences with others, but what do we really share, and what do we keep to ourselves? Vitality aims to break through the barriers by providing an area of free speech where we can share our nostalgic and aspirational feelings without fear of being judged. The background of each "secret" is derived from security patterns from envelopes, suggesting the privacy usually involved with these statements. The application is then also translated to a phone app to allow the user to share on-the-go. Feel free to add your aspirational or nostalgic feeling to the mix.
Stefan & Lou: A Multiplicity of Narratives
This book describes the designer-client relationship between Stefan Sagmeister and Lou Reed. It is split up into 5 distinct narratives: Stefan's story, Lou's story, Stefan & Lou's collaborations, my reflection on their collaborations, and inside the french folded pages the narrative of Stefan's plays on words. The hand die-cut cover encompases the concept by allowing the title to appear in different forms. Japanese stitch bound. 50 pages.
A Week in Language
All the language I heard for one week in my life was recorded and transcribed, then entered into a grid and color coded depending on what type of language it is. Types of language include: digital conversations, formal and informal verbal conversations, academic research, auditory media, and visual media. Personally significant segments were then called out to act as entry points into the data. Eight languages are included, and statements range from "The gerbil stopped running?" to "America loves to consume, it's in our blood".
Emotions Are Human
In today's society, people are continually taught to repress their many emotions. This series of posters is meant to exploit them boldly as a contrast and to force people to acknowledge them. The 6 everyday emotions displayed are: calm, confusion, anger, joy, sorrow, and content. The use of "you" is used to try to create a connection with the viewer. The posters are meant to be displayed in public places to remind people of their humanity.
Distortion Remix
Through an interest in electronically mixed music came the question, "what would happen if images were electronically remixed?" By opening up images in a text editor and "remixing" the symbols, interesting and uncontrollable distortions were achieved, resulting in an exploration of color and texture.
Screenprinting
An exploration of form, techniques, and materials through screenprinting. Some techniques used are color blends, ruby cuts, halftones, and multiple print runs.
